The Body Electric - Eddie Chacon and Sissy Sainte-Marie's Polyamorous Affair

Eddie Chacon and Sissy Sainte-Marie are the stage duo and life couple behind colorful electro pop band The Polyamorous Affair. Their peculiar fantasy world and love for warm melodies mixes with a hint of mystery and lots of humor into the hits-to-be that are every singles by The Polyamourous Affair. You might remember Eddie from early 90's neo-soul act Charles and Eddie, but Mr. and Mrs Chacon will make you straight away forget any prejudice that this background might bring to your mind ( though it was a cool tune ) with their powerful electro pop tinted of californian saturated colors. Strange Bedfellow is the eloquent title of their upcoming album, due to be out for the 15th of August, a perfect soundtrack for your upcoming summer late nights.

A Song for the day - "Blind Vision" BlancMange

"Blind hope - blind visions - blind centre - one centre.

Blind living - and seeing - blind hell - blind hell.
Blind visions - and no reasons - for action - blind words.
Blind visions - and no reasons - for action - blind words.
Blind visions - and no reasons - no reasons - for actions.
In a dream when I'm reading pages full of words
The harder you look - it's getting hard - it's getting harder - it's not.
A dream's a dream - In a dream when I'm reading pages
pages full of words"

Robin's Summer Reading - Apathy For The Devil by Nick Kent

Some healthy reading for summer : Apathy for the Devil by Nick Kent , the self proclaimed ' Zeitgeist surfing dark prince of seventies rock journalism'...
I had years ago
religiously
read 'The Dark Stuff', his collection of essays and articles about, well, all the most important rock artists you can think of, from Phil Spector to Iggy Pop and Bowie to Kurt Cobain. Yes the essays are extremely clever and witty and spot-on and blah, but they are definitely not as good ( and as hilarious) as his own memoir where his own teenage, sexual, social and musical experiences collide with the times of the 70's...

Including some gems as
:

"These people (the Band, the Beatles in 1970) were just disappearing behind a forest of their own testosterone. That's why the Stones were always the best-looking rock act of that era. Five members and yet no facial hair whatsoever. They always had their priorities well sorted."

"I turned to my right and saw a figure approaching. he had ink-black hair and a big village-idiot grin breaking up his features like a split coconut. Once again I found myself face to face with Sid Vicious."

"They say good taste is timeless. But bad taste has been around just as long and is invariably more lucrative."

I could go on forever so BASICALLY, A MUST READ THIS SUMMER. any other suggestions?

Beyond Adornment - EEM x Stockman Haute Couture Busts

Paris based Emmanuel Bossuet is one of the rare art directors of his generation to conceive his work with such an intense decorative dimension. Graphic prowess is the genuine credo of this Paris best-kept secret.
Debuting as a graphic consultant at Philip Starck’s he very soon after established EEM as an agency aimed to one-of-a-kind projects. Studios like Martine Sitbon or Sonia Rykiel to name few requested him for his skill as a decorative designer. Alongside, brands like Cartier, Lalique, Swarovski or Knoll often asked him to express in sound terms their immaterial heritage.

Emmanuel also usually looks for new ways to express his fascination toward display installations. One of his favorite game is to divert them from their prior function and turn them into arresting pieces.
As an new opportunity came up this year with a carte blanche offered by the M&K Paris agency, Emmanuel decided to collaborate with historic mannequin masters STOCKMAN to produce limited edition "haute couture" busts.
His plan was clear : to turn the basic shape into a blank canvas for the very patterns he is used to, but colliding with it, enhancing it, resetting it and ultimately adorning it. As a result, a variation of 3 pieces, all black and white, reveals in a unexpected light the atemporal aura of the archetypal silhouette.

These pieces final coverings made with printed fabrics were demanding for accurate and unparalleled adjustments. They were possible thanks to the know-how of the STOCKMAN workshops : as every bust is till now entirely made by hand according to the grand tradition of the brand dating back from 1867.

The Haute Couture Busts will be exhibited in Paris from September
before touring to London and Milan.

Fresh Print - EY ! Electric Youth Summer 2010

LuisVenegas can easily be considered as the only young and interesting magazine publisher in Europe, with the arty Fanzine 137, the acclaimed EY ! Electric Youth and the new press sensation that is Candy, the man behind the glossy paper is to be congratulated. Now the new giant size double issue of EY ! for Summer 10 is keeps the magazine in it's gay fantasy fanzine line it had since the beginning but this time stays in black and white with a very 70's feel to it and brings together some of the bigger names of today fashion photography like Bruce Weber, Matthias Vriens, David Armstrong, Walter Pfeiffer or Karim Sadli. The result is probably as enjoyable for girls than for boys !

Get Yourself An Underground Director ! - Kenneth Anger for Missoni Fall 2010

Directed by Kenneth Anger
Styling by Vanessa Reid

So if there's some name I would have never expected to appear in a fashion industry commercial video, it's Anger's. But there obviously still is an art director with some taste, or a least buying it, ( it's easy to picture the art director saying to the Missoni rep. "Get Yourself An Underground Director ! " ) like the Missoni did with this not so bad video by underground film artist Kenneth Anger, the years of "Fireworks" , Aleister Crowley and satanism seem to be far away for Anger, unless he and the Missoni share the shame passion for the two-horned beast, that could be an explanation for their long lasting dynastic fashion empire !
