From Fumiko To You : Dream Island

Dream Island
---
This was my house from 1976-1982 in Rio,
photographed by Geir Haraldseth, while he visited Rio,
I asked him to take picture, and he really took it for me. ;)
300 flamengo beach,
I used to watch atlantic ocean view
In front of our house everyday.
There was a small island in front of me
I called it Whale island
Cause of the shape
and I was dreaming and imagining
what kind of island is it?
Recently, i found out
It was just a concrete.....
High tech google map broke my dream island
I shouldn't be so "knowsy"
...

From Fumiko To You - Mouth Piece

"mouth peace?

I've got very hard mouth piece made from a funny demanding grumpy old
doctor without any explainations.
It was more expensive than i imagined, but does it really work???
The reason to have this made is to heal my jaw which is having pain.
Recently, if I eat brown rice, I have tremendous pain in my facial bones.
Well... new mouth accessory piece which is harder than dried brown rice...
or plastic dish...
can you really heal me???"

From Fumiko to You - Fumiko's Animal Planet

My father found some animal's poo on the roof of his soba noodle house 2days ago,
and we were wondering if it is cat or a Hakubishin (paguma larvata)
who came to our Kumquat tree in spring.
Poo was already 3 layers with 3 different colours.
which means he came 3 times to shit there.
oh!

Normally, we dont release our dog during night in our garden, but last night we did.
He barked around 10:30pm.
So i went to take picture of this mysterious visitor with flash (its too dark to see him so)
it was him! Hakubishin!
very cute criminal who shit on our house!!!

From Fumiko to You - Sakura !

---
SAKURA
---

"Its the end of the commercial sakura,
and its time for the wild Sakura now! ;)
I prefer mountain sakura to famous Someiyoshino one.
Its more tasteful, a different beauty in their attitude.
Is that the reason why i like underground over mainstream ?
To become commercial, it has to be a bit tasteless.
And too much, like over dressed attracting people's attention.
Sakura Sakura
Its the end of the season and people get drunk
under this pink headed trees.
And their sheets are ugly blue...
Im happy its over now."

From Fumiko to You - Before Eaten by Worms

I was really shocked twice this year already..my cardigan and dress were eaten by worms while keeping it in the storage.
Somehow these moth worms love labels!
Only expensive materials they chose for dinner. yam yamm,,,
Such a fashionable bitchy worms!
I had to cry for my clothes with holes everywhere.
Objects...Objects...Objects... I can not keep my favorite things forever.
Myself as well.
Before eaten by worms, I need to enjoy my life!
Just dont know how to play life game.
I'm in the storage for quite while without being washed properly before I stored myself in.
Possibly my heart has holes like colander!
Nooo!

From Fumiko to You - New Relaxation !

"I didnt like to have my face licked by our family dog cause it is disgusting, so I always avoided by saying "Stop it!". Yesterday, somehow I let him do it, and it was comfortable, somehow!?
It could become a new relaxation technique, as business? maybe!? I'm not joking! "

"I Hate Photography !" by Fumiko Imano

Copyright Fumiko Imano

Self Portrait artist Fumiko Imano is back with a a new book, entitled " I Hate Photography !".

A black and white, self published home-made book. Imano had this project on the corner of her mind for a little while, and thought of it first as a well and properly produced publication. But meanwhile things have changed and with the world economy on it s way down, Imano thought it made sense to release it with the small ressources available at the time. "Like a very beginner" she explains, "black and white photocopy.(xerox), stapled one or five times ( mistaking holes sometimes)...".
Imano said she had the title ready for over year and it refers to the fact that she's been suffering from the clichés around the terms Photographer and Photography: "I use to love it a lot (photography) but the more i did, the more i hated it". "I hated the way people adore it. I hated poetic japanese way of photography or cute girl's photography" Imano continues about her feeling towards being a picture maker. Even though she enters a vicious circle of hate towards her own ways of thinking with her work, she continued taking pictures as she has a strong believe in miracles, "so i still keep going even if I hate it".
This love / hate relationship she has with photography reflects her whole mental complexity, an almost animal feeling she has with everything that surrounds her.

"A Twin Set" - Introducing artist Fumiko Imano

"Rebelious tie girl" Japan, 2008

Fumiko Imano's ultimate goal in life is to be happy, she is an Artist, but to think further she is a world, one of her own.
Born in Japan in the mid seventies, she then spent her childhood in Brazil, growing up there contributed to building a taste for the "exotic", in it s pure sense - an interest for what's out there.
1997, she moves to London to study Fine Art and Fashion Photography at London College of Fashion and Central Saint Martin's. There she meets fashion designer Marjan Pejoski, the beginning of a long term collaboration. Meanwhile Imano's work starts focusing on self-portrait through photography, video, collage and music. Fumiko explains that she used to paint and "tried many subjects but only self-portraits had this something more that makes a painting an art piece", she had to admit herself as "the strongest magical subject".
Only a year after she finished school, she was listed to participate Hyeres fashion and photography festival as upcoming young photographer, where she linked with numerous art directors and fashion designers, like Charles Anastase with whome she'll later on collaborate on different projects (including being a muse, composing and performing music, etc), and got great support from fashion institutions as Showstudio or Michel Mallard. Around this time Imano develloped her twin self-portrait, her and herself, picturing her own mysteries again and again. It became like the genesis of a third person, at the border of the artist's consciousness, a person known better by the viewer than by the artist herself.
Those works have been exhibited from London to Honk Kong, passing by Reykjavik, New York and Paris. Imano has also been featured in high level fashion magazines and art journal, including DUTCH, BIG, LULA, TOKION, and more. A self published book " Fumiko Imano 1974-2004" came in 2005 to compile her work, still available at Nadiff - Tokyo, Kapok - Hongkong and Belleville - Reykjavik.
Now based back in Japan, Imano is trying to stop thinking in negative ways and prepares a second self-publication for the coming summer.
