"Finnish designer Heikke Salonen, who trained at London’s Royal College of Art, won the prestigious ITS Diesel Award in 2008 for his SS09 collection entitled ‘Kant’. It was inspired by Scandinavian writers Tove Jansson, who dreamed up the iconic Moomin books and Astrid Lindgren, famous for creating the Pippi Longstocking character. Salonen’s brand of chic, mannish tailoring combined with abstract elements and finishes inspired Maria Luisa to pick up the collection – a sure sign that Salonen’s star is on the rise."
