"I Hate Photography !" by Fumiko Imano

Copyright Fumiko Imano

Self Portrait artist Fumiko Imano is back with a a new book, entitled " I Hate Photography !".

A black and white, self published home-made book. Imano had this project on the corner of her mind for a little while, and thought of it first as a well and properly produced publication. But meanwhile things have changed and with the world economy on it s way down, Imano thought it made sense to release it with the small ressources available at the time. "Like a very beginner" she explains, "black and white photocopy.(xerox), stapled one or five times ( mistaking holes sometimes)...".
Imano said she had the title ready for over year and it refers to the fact that she's been suffering from the clichés around the terms Photographer and Photography: "I use to love it a lot (photography) but the more i did, the more i hated it". "I hated the way people adore it. I hated poetic japanese way of photography or cute girl's photography" Imano continues about her feeling towards being a picture maker. Even though she enters a vicious circle of hate towards her own ways of thinking with her work, she continued taking pictures as she has a strong believe in miracles, "so i still keep going even if I hate it".
This love / hate relationship she has with photography reflects her whole mental complexity, an almost animal feeling she has with everything that surrounds her.
